People are at the heart of the statistics
Mental health conditions remain the primary driver of work-related ill health, with 964,000 workers reporting stress, depression or anxiety caused or made worse by work in 2024/25. This is in line with the upward trend in recent years.
Work-related ill health and injuries resulted in an estimated 40.1 million working days lost in 2024/25, continuing to place significant pressure on both workers and businesses.
Each of these 964,000 people has their own story of how mental ill health has affected them but these stories are often not shared and therefore they cannot be used as a source of guidance and support.
At OBInsights we have our own personal stories of mental health struggles that we openly share.
We have also had the privilege to hear and learn from a very powerful speaker about his personal journey. Julian Raithby from Mental Health and Me 999 has been through some of life’s darkest moments – including anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis, addiction, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. Today, he shares his story to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and help others feel less alone.
